I have been trying to catch the Discovery Channel's show "It Takes A Thief" but unfortionately it is on from 5 - 6 and I normally have to work until 5:30 so by the time I get home it is normally over...

There is quite a bit of good information about home security on that show as well as their website. Check it out!

I watch the show and it does have a great deal of good info on locks, alarms, safes, surveillance equipment, etc. It amazes me how oblivious most of the people are when it comes to home security. There was an episode a while back with a lawyer who lived in NYC. Living in a brownstone in Brooklyn and having tons of valuable art and electronics and he didn't even lock his windows. The burglars were able to get over $250,000 worth of stuff in under 15 minutes while neighbors, a delivery man, and even a COP were none the wiser. The last episode was very interesting. The lady who was to be the victim worked out of her home and was very lax on security. They actually tricked her into thinking they were going to rob her later while she watched on CC TV, but actually robbed the place while she was still in the house. She sat in her office, yacking on the phone while the burglar came within 20 feet of her while cleaning out the house. She never even knew he was there. When the showed her the video of her sitting in her house while it was being robbed, I thought she was going to cry.
